Yearwood wants to protect the bottom lineBy April Bethea Monitor Staff John Yearwood is the national and international editor for the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram. Before joining the Star-Telegram, he worked for the Dallas Morning news for 10 years, and spent two years in the Caribbean as the founding publisher and editor of IBIS, a general lifestyle magazine. He was also the first Afro-Trinidadian president of the San Juan Business Owners Association. Yearwood participated in a workshop sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Association and received a fellowship to the Maynard Institute's financial management program. An active NABJ member, Yearwood also has been involved with the Dallas/Fort Worth Association of Black Communicators for nearly two decades. He served two terms as the chapter president, and five years on the organization's board of directors. Yearwood has helped to lead successful fundraising efforts for the chapter and helped lead efforts to train other NABJ chapter presidents about financial accountability during his tenure as chairman of the organization's Council of Presidents. |
