Chanta L. Jackson is a copy editor at The Star Ledger in Newark, N.J. She is deputy director for NABJ Region II and treasurer of the Garden State Association of Black Journalists. Jackson has held several leadership posts within GSABJ, including serving four years as president.

As the group's president, Jackson helped the chapter obtain its nonprofit status and helped raise more than $25,000 in grants.

Jackson said that being parliamentarian would allow her an opportunity to give something back to NABJ, which she says has played an instrumental role in her career.

Her platform goals include helping to ensure that chapters meet affiliate requirements; resolving debates about the structure of the national board; and maintaining consistency in the language and interpretation of NABJ's constitution, by-laws and operating procedures.

Jackson also has worked as a television producer and anchor for Comcast cable and as a researcher for WJLA "7 On Your Side News Team" in Washington, D.C.
