President's comments are out of bounds
I just finished reading the story on Condace and I find her allegations to be an absolute disgrace. Her statements with regards to Herb Lowe and Cheryl Smith are completely out of bounds and are suspect.

A sitting president should have a helluva lot more class than what she has showing. And to make these statements the week of a convention when folks will be voting is even more pathetic.

People who are still deciding should judge the candidates on an equal basis. Condance also shouldn't be making the allegations about Cheryl DURING THE WEEK OF THE CONVENTION! If she felt this way, she should have spoken up sooner so the issue could have been cleared up. This is nothing but dirty campaigning on the part of Condace to push her boy Mike. Madam, President, your actions are atrocious.

Cheryl Smith is not the only person who fought for the convention to come to Dallas. In fact, this was an effort by a lot of folks. As the regional rep, her job was to fight for the region.

Second, Condace clearly is pissed that she didn't get to have a swan song in her city. If she felt that much about having the convention in Atlanta, maybe she should have hustled and campaigned to get it there. And Cheryl is right, it is not out of the ordinary for board members to poll other members and get them to vote a certain way.

A nod from tech support
I'm honored to be part of NABJ Convention 2003 technical support staff here in Dallas, courtesy of The Dallas Morning News.

Working with Greg Lee, the Interns and other professional journalists from around the nation is an experience as unique as our heritage. Kudos to all for making this inclusive event a Dallas reality.

Heavy Hitters
I worked on the NAHJ online project with Michelle Johnson. I found out today that Condoleezza Rice would be addressing the convention, and then later learned that [Arthur] Sulzberger would be there.

It is reassuring to see such heavy hitters making some necessary rounds. As both a student and fellow online alum I wish the best for all of you and want you to know that I am staying tuned.
