Text of statement by NABJ leadersWe, as current and past leaders of NABJ, locally and nationally, are supporting different candidates to become NABJ's next president. However, we stand together in support of protecting the integrity of the office and the organization. We care passionately about its reputation and its future as a viable advocacy group for black journalists young and old. Comments about the ongoing presidential campaign, which were published on NABJ online for the nation to see, were beneath the standards that the membership expects us to uphold. When leaders of NABJ's stature issue statements that are in poor taste, the entire membership suffers. We stand here as current and past leaders of NABJ and ask the membership to demand more of its leaders and to expect more of its new president. Signed, Current and Former NABJ Local and National Leaders Sheila Brooks, former NABJ Secretary Tony Cox, former NABJ Vice President/Broadcast George Curry, NABJ Journalist of the Year, 2003 Bonnie Newman Davis, NABJ Region III Director Jackie Greene, former NABJ treasurer Roy S.
